Pierre Saddik, FCIA, FSA

Pierre is the President of Saddik
International Actuarial Consulting (www.saddikinternational.com),
founded in 2005, specializing in Group Insurance, Travel
and Health Insurance, Creditor, Special Risks, both in
Canada and internationally.
Prior to establishing his actuarial
practice, he held the position of VP Group Development
at Optimum Reassurance from 1989 till 2005; and was a
major contributor to the establishment of Optimum Re as
the leading Canadian group travel reinsurer. Before
joining Optimum Re, Pierre worked at Blue Cross, SunLife
and Mercer.
Pierre’s Group Insurance expertise
includes Life, Health and disability insurance, Expats/Inpats,
Critical Illness, Special Risks, Creditor and
International reinsurance.. He developed the unique
“Saddik Self-Funding Security Index” (S3I), an
innovative, objective risk-measurement tool used by
Groups who consider partial self-funding of Group health
and dental benefits as an alternative to the traditional
fully-insured route.
Saddik International’s corporate client
base includes Optimum Reassurance, travel medical
concierge companies, air evacuation companies, financial
advisors, self-funded plans, multi-employer religious
groups, funeral homes and nursing homes.
In his career, Pierre has also worked in
collaboration with notables such as Dr Jacques Chaoulli,
who pioneered Canada’s health insurance law through his
involvement in the 2005 Supreme Court decision as well
as with Philippe Couillard, Quebec’s current Prime
Minister.
Pierre has also served his actuarial
profession and his industry as volunteer. From 1989 to
1999, he championed major Group intercompany studies:
1989, 1990 and 1991 Group Mortality studies
and the first-ever 1987-1994 Canadian Group LTD
termination studies. From 1999 to 2003, he chaired
on Board of Directors of the Canadian Institute of
Actuaries. As well, he has chaired on various
committees of the Canadian Life and Health Insurance
Association. Pierre is a graduate of McGill
University, is married and has three children.
